Welcome to the Durham Ox website. Three hundred years old, and family owned for the last nine; the Durham Ox was recently named The Good Pub Guide's "Yorkshire Pub of the Year 2009" as well as being voted "AA Pub of the Year, England" 2007/8, The Publican's Freehouse of the Year 2008, Yorkshire Life's "Traditional Pub of the Year 2008" and Yorkshire Pub of the Year at The White Rose Awards in September 2008. We pride ourselves on offering friendly and efficient service; showcasing the best of local produce in our menu,  as well as stocking an extensive range of wines and cask ales; it is wonderful to be recognised for this.

We are situated in the historic village of Crayke, with breathtaking views over the vale of York on three sides, and a charming view up the hill to the medieval Church. Crayke is less than 20 minutes from York City Centre, and in the heart of Herriot Country. We are well placed for visits to Castle Howard, the walled gardens at Scampston, Byland Abbey and other stately homes and historic sites.

The Durham Ox is an award winning traditonal pub complete with flag stone floors, exposed beams, oak panelling and roaring fires in the main bar during the winter.  For those wishing for over-night accommodation there are four converted farm cottages that provide a peaceful and charming place to stay, with their exposed brickwork, and original quarry tiles.  The Durham Ox is the ideal country get away, with easy access to York and up on to the Moors and Coast.
